Raccoon latrine Removal in Scarborough

Case Study: Raccoon latrine Removal in Scarborough

Exterior Inspection

A customer complained of a raccoon latrine under the deck in Scarborough. A technician was dispatched to the site to conduct an exterior inspection and take further steps based on the assessment. The exterior inspection is important because it gives the technician a closer look at the situation and undertakes a plan of attack. It also leads to other clues and other latrines along the way and even the raccoons themselves in some instances. The interesting thing about this case is that the latrine was found under the deck. The deck is normally used as a shelter for raccoons to protect them from outside elements such as predators and the weather.

Raccoon feces are highly toxic and people can get infected through direct or indirect contact. Raccoon feces contain microscopic ringworm eggs that can accidentally be ingested. This is why kids and pets are at a high risk of swallowing these eggs as they are often found in dirt.

They can do serious damage to the nervous system and eyes. Raccoon feces can be often found near human habitats because they come to these places in search of food, water, and shelter. The raccoon population in Ontario has continuously been causing problems to residents in cities across the province. Feces are an unfortunate by-product of raccoon presence in urban areas. These feces can be found on top of roofs, yards, and like in this raccoon feces removal job, underneath decks.

Raccoon feces are highly toxic and this is why our technician needed to gear wearing a one-piece jumpsuit, goggles, gloves, and a respirator mask to prevent him from breathing in airborne particles.

Initial Measures Taken

Since feces were found underneath the deck, the technician also checked for a dead animal. This is because decks are popular places for raccoons. After confirming that there were no dead animals to be found, the technician moved on to the feces removal part. After the feces were removed, the area was fogged as a way to disinfect the area.

A One-Way Door was also found on the deck which indicated the previous habitation by raccoons. One-Way Doors are a tunnel-like contraption that lets raccoons out by forcing them to pass through one way. Once the raccoon is out of the deck area, the raccoon cannot move back in and leaves the area for good. Once it is confirmed that the raccoon has left, the technician seals up the entry point.
