Raccoon Deck Exclusion Involving Baby Raccoon and Adult Raccoon in Old Toronto

Exterior Inspection

Raccoons are an iconic wildlife pest in the city of Toronto. Whoever thinks of Toronto will think of raccoons. While these animals are fun to observe, raccoons can be very problematic wildlife animals that can wreak havoc on the property wherever the raccoon stays.

If you have raccoons on the property and need to get rid of them in a safe and humane way, call  Raccoon Control Toronto for guaranteed removal.

The property owner called Raccoon Control because they saw raccoons coming under the back deck. Babies and a raccoon adult were spotted leaving the area. Upon hearing this, a technician was dispatched to the area for an exterior inspection and to provide further solutions.

the exterior inspection is one of the most crucial and important parts of the raccoon removal process because it gives additional information that can help the technician understand the situation. The technician spotted a raccoon burrow on the front porch, and so informed the customer of a deck exclusion process that the technician needed to undertake in order to get the raccoons out from the deck.

 Initial Measures Taken

Deck exclusions can be quite a demanding process based on how much material and area the steel mesh needs to cover. Steel mesh is used around the perimeter of the deck to keep the raccoons out and will act as a barrier. This material is strong to withstand the fiercest attacks from any wildlife animal that is looking for shelter under the deck or base of the property.

To start the deck exclusion process, the technician had to dig one feet-deep trench around both decks. In total, 48 ft of mesh was used for both decks. The back deck had stairs that the customer was also interested in having excluded.

Every step was individually excluded for a custom fit. The steel mesh is attached to the wooden deck with washers and bolts for security. Additionally, the mesh is laid in an L-shape to prevent digging animals such as rats and skunks go under the base of the structures.

For the front deck, a large space was also excluded. Two Raccoon One-Way Doors were also attached where the raccoon burrow was located. One door was for an adult raccoon and the other one was for a baby raccoon that was mobile. The Raccoon One-Way Door gives the raccoons a single-way exit.

The front deck was also excluded. The technician found a raccoon burrow here.

Once they exit these doors, they cannot get back and will move away. It takes about a week or more for the raccoons to move. The technician will come back, confirm they left, and seal the gap where the One-Way Door is located. After the raccoons were confirmed to have left, the technician deodorized and disinfected the area.
